The CompuSports
Product Lab tests a large number of products that complement
our video editing software. From video capture cards that add firewire
connections to laptops to multimedia suites, we're always
on the lookout for good products at reasonable prices.
This month, we're offering a new product for us - one
we first came to know by working with a couple of coaches that were using
our Easy-Scout Professional software.
AVS
MULTIMEDIA TOOLKIT UNLIMITED USE SPECIAL
Unlike the general purpose
suites that we featured in previous months, AVS
takes a different approach, and we think our
customers will like it. Rather than bundle a number
of products in a single package and try to create a
unifying type of user interface, AVS offers a
utility "toolkit" approach, which enables the user
to choose to install only the components of the
toolkit that is required.
Another thing we like about AVS is that during the
"subscription" period - don't be fooled by the word,
there are 2 subscriptions, one of which is an
UNLIMITED one that we have featured below, and
another that is a single year subscription that
saves a few bucks.
The UNLIMITED subscription
is really more like what we do here with software -
a license Purchase.. you buy it, you own the license
and use it for as long as yo wish with not mandatory
renewal or upgrade fees.
The
AVS product that we are most excited about is the new
AVS
Video Converter. We like it for many of the same
reasons we like Deskshare's Rip DVD Plus - its easy
to use because it only does one basic function.
This
AVS product edges the current Deskshare product as the most flexible Video
Converter we have found. Its also a polished, professional,
product that we can be confident will work for you
and with our products.
The AVS Converter can handle
a wide range of video files
- from a DVD's VOB files, to the sometimes difficult
to work with MOD clips created by newer Hard Drive
and Flash camcorders. Most
importantly, the AVS product can merge these video clips or files
into a single AVI (or other format) file, making it
possible for coaches to create a single video file
for a full game's worth of video.
